For Chanel Bayless’s Simply Deep Tarot, artist James Battersby cleverly snuck something unexpected into the Six of Swords, and that gave me a giggle.
Do you see it? There—just by the left margin?
It’s a bathtub faucet.
In this figment of Battersby’s imagination, a faucet pours water into a natural body of water splashed and stirred by swords and a shrouded, faceless ferryperson’s oar.
Perhaps this story began with something simple and mundane—a warm, comfy bath. That bath, then, became a nap. That nap, then, spilled into a mythic journey. Such things can happen, you know.
Our redheaded, brightly-attired passenger—in Tarotland, these colors can symbolize a person of dashing spirit and impetuous action—might have fallen fast asleep. Or, perhaps, our passenger is just exhausted and, for a change, ready to have someone else determine direction and steer.
In any case, this arrangement between passenger and ferryperson requires deeeeep trust.
Six dynamic swords launched the rowboat. Now they line its stern and guard it.
Can you identify six things that might compel you to trust life and push off for parts unknown?
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. All aligned around your boat.
For guidance, try looking back at your past experience, certain times in your life when similar stories unfolded. We all have them.
What happened then? What were the propelling forces? What did you leave on the shore? Which land did you ultimately reach?
Take journal and pen, and begin exploring what might become a new list of six potential life-changers and life-openers.
